Whether the duplicate exotic drops are a bug or simply the reward system working as intended, Bungie says it is looking to change that in the future. Among a list of updates, features, and changes that Bungie is looking to add to Destiny 2 was this:
There was no timetable given as to when players may be able to see these changes, but they could be as early as December when Bungie is expected to release its first expansion and switch to Season 2. There’s no guarantee Bungie will be ready to release such an update so early, though, which makes a 2018 release more likely.
The good news is that Bungie is looking into remedying the frustration of getting the same exotic weapons and armor time and time again. However, the quicker the better, as a large portion of players are getting fed up with this and other aspects of the game, especially when it comes to available gear and the endgame grind. Collecting gear is one of the last things pulling players through Destiny 2, but duplicate drops are putting a damper on that.
Also included on the list of things Bungie is working on for Destiny 2 include the addition of private matches, giving players more reasons to engage with the content, as well as an emote wheel. Again, Bungie didn’t make any promises as to when these features could arrive but said it is working toward these goals.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
