Bungie’s has introduced lots of new weapons and gear into Destiny 2 as part of its anniversary. Some of these weapons have never been seen before in Destiny, like a sidearm and a pulse rifle that were made as an homage to Bungie’s work on Halo. Other weapons, however, are fan-favorites from the first Destiny game. One such weapon is the Matador 64 shotgun.

How to Get the Matador 64 Shotgun
Much like the 1000-Yard Stare, Matador 64 can only be unlocked as part of a random drop at the end of the new dungeon, The Grasp of Avarice. In order to get any of the new guns, and experience the dungeon, players need to purchase the 30th-anniversary pack from Bungie. Once the dungeon is completed, a random piece of gear will be rewarded, meaning players might have to complete the activity multiple times to get the Matador 64. The gun will also drop with random perks, like all other legendary weapons in the game, which has led many players to seek out the best possible version of the shotgun.
The Matador 64 shotgun deals arc damage and has a five-round magazine. It’s a hard-hitting weapon, though its range is nothing special. This makes it good for PVE and close encounters, but it isn’t perfect for some of Destiny 2’s highest-level content. The Rifle Barreling perk is a good one to have on the weapon, as it will increase range and handling. As for PVP, one of the best perks is Perpetual Motion, which gives players all sorts of buffs while moving with the weapon. As noted, though, the Matador 64 likely won’t drop with these abilities the first time players complete The Grasp of Avarice.
Shotguns in Destiny 2 have always been good for some encounters and bad for others. The Matador 64, though, certainly bridges the gap. It is extraordinarily helpful for dungeons and strikes, and can be useful in PVP with the right perks. Not every player in Destiny 2 likes to use shotguns, but for those considering adding one to their arsenal, the Matador 64 should be a serious contender.
There have been some players who have pointed out that the Matador 64 shotgun, while good, is not the best weapon that can be acquired from the new dungeon. Fortunately, Destiny is a game that accommodates a variety of play styles, which means that any of the guns from The Grasp of Avarice can be great tools for players. No matter what guns fans chase, though, it’s undeniably great to see Bungie caring for its fans and introducing content that players will love.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
