During today’s Bungie Bounty, the developers were asked a ton of questions about the Gambit mode. The queries ranged from whether Bungie will address the catch-up mechanic to how the mode changed during development. And while a lot of the answers were illuminating, the one that had most Destiny 2 fans excited was confirmation of a Gambit pinnacle weapon next season.
Since this wasn’t a formal announcement, there are still a lot of questions surrounding the Gambit pinnacle weapon. Presumably, this weapon will have unique perks that favor the Gambit mode (like the Malfeasance exotic hand cannon) and it will be the reward for completing a lengthy quest.
Given the popularity of the Luna’s Howl quest, it makes sense for Destiny 2 to introduce pinnacle weapons tied to other modes. While PvE has plenty of quests with exotic rewards – Wish Ender, for example – PvP and now Gambit fans have been looking for more reasons to invest their time. In Season 5, they will apparently have it and hopefully, the reward will be worth the effort. The Dredgen title is a cool way to show off one’s dedication but rewards that benefit gameplay are typically preferred.
In addition to adding a pinnacle reward, Bungie will also be looking into tweaking the catch-up mechanic in Gambit so that it doesn’t give the losing team too much of an advantage. The devs revealed that without the catch-up mechanic they saw a lot of quitting, so there needs to be some way for the losing team to make ground, but not so much that it is easier to win when coming from behind. According to the stream, Bungie might lower the amount of Primeval Slayer buff stacks that the losing team gets when it summons its Primeval.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
