Game Director Steve Cotton confirmed to Game Informer that while the Whisper of the Worm quest was very unique and quests in Destiny 2’s future are “not exactly like Whisper of the Worm,” there will, in fact, be more secrets quests lurking in Destiny 2: Forsaken for players to find.
Cotton also confirmed that exotic quests (those quests that lead players on a multi-step journey to earn a specific exotic weapon) will also be returning in Destiny 2; however, he would not go into any details about which specific exotics may be getting the quest treatment. Destiny 2 has revealed a number of exotics in a recent trailer, and while some are surely going to be a random drop within the game’s loot pool, there will be exotics in Forsaken that will be earned specifically through quests.
Exotic quests have existed within Destiny 2 since launch, such as the Rat King and MIDA Multi-Tool, so it’s not much of a surprise that Bungie will continue that tradition moving forward into this expansion. Some fans may be hopeful for more involved quests like those seen in the past in Destiny 1, but Bungie has yet to go into further details about these quests and their complexity.
This seems to be exactly what fans are wanting, especially after the highly positive reception of the Whisper of the Worm quest. Finding secrets in the nooks and crannies of Destiny 2 seem exactly what most fans are asking for and this is just another way Bungie looks to be doing it, in addition to how much Bungie has already teased how many secrets will be found in the game’s new endgame explorable area, The Dreaming City.
Destiny 2: Forsaken releases on September 4, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
