Destiny 2: Forsaken is set to launch at the beginning of September, and will bring a hybrid PvE/PvP mode Gambit, a new story campaign and enemy faction, and more. Bungie project lead Scott Taylor says Forsaken has two destinations worth of content, which makes it the largest expansion Bungie has ever made in the history of the Destiny franchise:

The Taken King was the most significant expansion in Destiny 1, kicking off the original game’s second year and adding many systems like the Infusion system that still persist to this day. It was a turning point for Destiny 1, and is a benchmark against which many longtime Destiny fans still compare the Destiny franchise’s expansions. If all goes right for Bungie, Forsaken will be Destiny 2’s version of The Taken King.

Bungie is looking to overhaul Destiny 2 (which suffered criticism and loss of players during its first year) with Forsaken with not only the content that fills it, but also with changes to the game’s weapon slots, adding random rolls back to the game, and more.

As seen in the game’s story reveal trailer, players will set off on a space Western tale of revenge, avenging the death of Cayde-6 and hunting down Prince Uldren and the Fallen barons that he releases from the Prison of Elders. Only time will tell if Forsaken can recapture the hobby that so many players miss from Destiny 1, and if all that content that Bungie says makes up the expansion can keep players engaged through the game’s second year.
