Bungie also revealed in this announcement that, since it has no solid plans yet, Trials of the Nine will be “staying on hiatus indefinitely and will not return over the course of the next few seasons.” This quickly became a point of contention, as fans were not happy with the silent treatment over Trial of the Nine’s replacement, catalyzing many more complaints against Bungie as well.
It seems many fans would be happy with a re-implementation of Trials of Osiris, but for whatever reason, Bungie has been crickets as to why this is not doable or what form it is truly considering (the company did mention news when a prototype was available). But, using this latest controversy as a jumping point, Redditor jaymdubbs lobbied serious complaints against the developer, with many commenters agreeing that communication was a severe issue:
It’s clear the player base, or at least a section of it, are unhappy with the current state of communication in the game. To Bungie’s credit, however, the company has recently revealed the start date of season 6, Season of the Drifter, which focuses on the PvEvP Gambit mode, but this may not be enough to pacify the masses.
No faction rallies or updates about it (again, vanilla D2 content that has been taken away)
Lack of communication, updates and SILENCE around the current state of competitive (or crucible in general)
Lack of vendor gear refreshes that were provided to us in Year 1 (vanguard, crucible, gambit) that were stealthily removed when it all shifted to Forsaken. Again, content/expectations from Year 1 that were not communicated in year 2.
Not having Y1 armor updated to Y2 standards, diluting the loot pool making all the gear we earned and payed for in Y1 obsolete (including eververse items)
Less than 3 weeks away from the new season with NO details on what’s changing
Assuming the season and joker’s wild are a week apart, less than 4 weeks away from the new DLC with NO details
Crucible Labs……….what is that?
Exotic drop rates still an issue for many
Catalysts all but abandoned…..
RNG titles………
No strike loot - the nightfall rewards are a joke compared to D1…….
Complete regression on dev interactions from last year (Chris Barrett, Hamrick, Crucible team, etc.). Remember when we actually heard from them all ? Remember the development vids of the exotic tuning passes? Remember Hamrick saying more frequent patches/sandbox updates when actions show the direct opposite?
One thing that likely would help this scenario is some form of confirmation of plans for Trials of the Nine, and while some will likely respect the straightforward answer that Bungie doesn’t have any, many are also likely to remain upset about the missing high-tier, endgame PvP activity in Destiny 2.
Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
