RELATED: Hidden Secrets Many Still Haven’t Found In Destiny 2: Beyond Light
With so many things to do in Destiny 2, players may not have explored through the Cavern of Souls yet and taken the bounties contained within. With two major bounties that can be taken on and lots of loot to find, players will be eager to take on the challenge offered by the Cavern of Souls. These enemies are no walk in the park and take serious strategy to take them down.
Updated on November 6, 2021, by Anastasia Maillot: With the release of the Witch Queen DLC for Destiny 2 fast approaching, Cavern of Souls as a Lost Sector will most likely lose importance as the Forsaken campaign content and the Tangled Shore, along with Spider, is getting vaulted. Because of this, guardians wanting to take advantage of his Wanted bounties should hurry to the Shore and the Cavern of Souls soon for some extra XP and Glimmer.
The Lost Sector itself is nothing special and is among the shorter Lost Sectors. With the Season of the Lost here, however, a short guide with weapon recommendations has been added in to make preparation a bit easier for lower-light players in particular. Players above 1320 should generally not struggle with conquering the Cavern of Souls, however.
Getting The Bounties
If players are going to head through the Cavern of Souls, why miss out on all the spoils it has to offer? Players can head to find Spider on the Tangled Shore to purchase two bounties, one for Varghul, Fragment of Oryx, and one for Silent Fang.
Silent Fang won’t appear without the bounty being purchased from Spider so players need to be sure they have enough Ghost Fragments to get it. The Silent Fang bounty costs 5 Ghost Fragments to purchase and players can only hold 10 in their inventory at any given time so plan accordingly.
Note: Silent Fang’s location changes occasionally, so he might not actually be located in the Cavern of Souls. Varghul, however, has been consistently found to be located in this Lost Sector. For Silent Fang, as of the Season of the Lost November 2021, the quest begins at the northernmost fast travel point in the EDZ.
Collecting Ghost Fragments
Short on Ghost Fragments? No need to worry, there are many ways for players to collect them so they can purchase these bounties. One of the easiest ways is to complete public events. Players can also pick up and complete patrols to get their Ghost Fragments. They can also be found in region chests, random loot chests, and by taking down high-value targets.
Locating The Cavern Of Souls
Once the bounties have been acquired, players need to find the Cavern of Souls to hunt down their targets. The Cavern of Souls is located in The Sludge, a location in the EDZ on Earth.

After arriving at The Sludge, players should follow the shallow stream until they see warehouse-like buildings on the left. Once players spot the Lost Sector symbol, they can walk into the open container on the left. Players then turn right and follow the tunnel down into the dark depths. It is dark, literally, so players need to keep an eye open to not be ambushed by enemies.
Enemies Along The Way
There are many Taken enemies such as Psions, Centurions, and Hobgoblins that players will want to make sure they take out right away. There are also Exploder Shanks but make sure to not just use the explosives they drop on other enemies. They’ll be needed to blow up a shield generator that lets players proceed further into the cavern.
Once players reach a narrow hole in the wall they will encounter a Wizard. Players need to focus fire on him instead of the Psions he keeps summoning to end the battle quicker. Gamers that use their double jump and evade well should be able to take down the Wizard easily.
Pro Tip: Players with a good collection of weapon mods might want to consider putting on a Taken Spec mod on one of their weapons. This will help them literally melt through the Taken enemies found in the cavern. Void weapons work well against the Wizard that spawns here, so an auto rifle like the Gnawing Hunger with a Taken spec is a decent choice.
Defeating Varghul, Fragment of Oryx
Once players find a room with a massive blight inside, they’ll have found their first target. There are many additional enemies in the area that can swarm the player if they aren’t careful, so they should be sure to focus on taking them down first before trying to defeat the main enemy at hand.

Players can take on two options in this fight. Those who want to play it safe can stay at a distance and keep hitting Varghul’s glowing eye until he’s defeated. Players can also choose to go all in and smash Varghul up close. For those that choose this option, make sure to have a strong sword or shotgun so they can deal enough damage quickly.
Tips For Season Of The Lost: Since swords are no longer supreme, having a good fusion rifle like the Cartesian Coordinate or Null Composure can help chip down Varghul’s health. Make sure to have Particle Deconstruction unlocked from the seasonal artifact and equipped on the class item.
Put on any ad-clearing weapons and abilities as well, as Taken will spawn in abundance. As mentioned earlier, the Taken spec comes in clutch here. Stasis class for those who have Beyond Light and Stasis unlocked is also incredible for controlling the ads.
Take Down Silent Fang
Taking down Silent Fang will be far more challenging than any of the other fights within the Cavern of Souls. Once located, Silent Fang will be surrounded by a shield that protects him from taking damage. Players will need to defeat Exploder Shanks and use the explosives they drop to damage the shield generators protecting Silent Fang. Explosions in small places can be dicey so they need to be careful not to blow themselves up in the process.
Once the shield is taken out, players need to act fast as they regenerate after a short period of time. People that can’t take down Silent Fang in this first opening are in for a whole new world of pain. Each new wave of enemies and attacks becomes more terrifying than the one before, so be sure to get that damage in quickly. As of the Season of the Lost, having a good fusion rifle with Particle Deconstruction unlocked from the artifact is key in taking down these minor bosses solo, so make sure to bring a Tarantula, Null Composure, or Cartesian Coordinate.
Note: As of November 2021, Silent Fang isn’t located in the Cavern of Souls. Regardless, his boss fight still works largely the same, though the location for it is much easier and better lit, making it more beginner-friendly.
