During the production of Destiny 2 there were a number of things they had to scrap before release. Fortunately, they’ve introduced many of these scrapped ideas into later DLC and only a few things haven’t seen the light of day. Whether it’s locations from the old game, game modes, or wriggling creatures on the moons, here are all the things that didn’t make it to the final release.

10 Sparrow Racing League

While Sparrows were included in the game’s release the concept of a Sparrow Racing League hasn’t made an appearance in Destiny 2. Many fans believe the sparrows themselves barely made the deadline as they’re not obtainable until after players go through the entire story of the game.

There were some hidden files suggesting they had plans to include SRL into the game, though it’s unclear if this would have been a one-time event or a more integrated and permanent part of the game. Some fans believe the developers are slowly building up to an SRL given the inclusion of various Sparrows over the different seasons.

9 Ganymede

A number of audio files were found hidden in the game by Destiny fan TheEcumene that refers to a world known as Ganymede. In real-life Ganymede is largest of all the moons in the solar system and orbits Jupiter.

Considering many of Destiny 2’s locations are based on real-life equivalents it’s safe to say the developers had plans for players to explore this large moon orbiting Jupiter. There hasn’t been any word about this mysterious place since and no further details are given.

8 Moon Worms

These parasitic worms were prominent in later DLC but the developers seemingly wanted to give them more prominence upon the initial release and were likely forced to wait for later installments. In the game’s files are references to worms that reside on the moon and are no longer going to remain dormant.

Some fans believe this refers to a yet discovered Worm hiding on Earth’s moon while others think this was a vague reference to Xol, Will of The Thousands given the events of the Warmind DLC.

7 New Speaker

After the death of The Speaker in the events of the game’s story, fans were a bit puzzled that a new Speaker hasn’t been appointed. It seems the developers had intentions to create a new speaker, but the idea was scrapped.

Some fans believe that it was scrapped because the Traveler is now awake and a Speaker would no longer be necessary, other fans believe that the player is now the Speaker but has refused to give up a life of combat to fill the role. In any case there is no new speaker and the reasons why are unclear.

6 Prison Of Elders

The Prison of Elders was apparently meant to be a location present in the original release but was pushed back. It would make a prominent appearance in the DLC Forsaken which details the jailbreak of the Barons and Uldren Sov.

This is something fans have been least upset about being cut from the release considering how popular and well made the Forsaken DLC was. But there were some fans who were discouraged that they were unable to visit this important location in the beginning.

5 The Myriad

In addition to the Ganymede, The Myriad was another location players were supposed to visit but was rebranded or morphed into the current planet location Nessus. Some fans believe the name Nessus is more fitting to the lore and others believe the concept of the Myriad changed so much it needed to be changed.

Some fans believe it was initially called the Myriad given the presence of both Vex, Falalen, and Cabal populations and the myriad of structures on and in the planet.

4 House Of Dusk

It is entirely possible this was not cut content but meant to be an easter egg for the DLC Forsaken. In any case there were references buried in the game’s files upon release that hinted at the House of Dusk who worshiped the Darkness.

The reason some suspect it was an easter egg was because of how many references were made during the original story about how desperate the Fallen were. Others believe it’s cut content and the developers put it off until later to give the rise of this House true justice.

3 Black Garden

The Black Garden was a location of major importance in the first Destiny game with major implications regarding the ultimate antagonist of the entire series, the Darkness. This terrifying and mysterious location did not make an appearance despite its vast potential.

Fans were even more surprised that the location still didn’t make an appearance in Forsaken when the House of Dusk would have had a deep interest in this place given it’s attachments to their god the Darkness. Fortunately, the developers have teased that it will make an appearance in the upcoming DLC Shadowkeep.

2 Vault of Glass

The Vault of Glass was a raid location present in the first Destiny game but surprisingly absent from the second when it was released. The presence of files in the game’s data suggests it was intended to be part of the game’s release but the developers likely ran out of time.

Ultimately the Vault of Glass would appear in Destiny 2 after the release of the Curse of Osiris DLC. Many fans were pleased to see it was just as challenging as it was in the first game.

1 Phobos

Another location of prominence in the first game, Phobos the asteroid moon orbiting the planet Mars was also supposed to appear in Destiny 2. Unlike other locations cut from the game’s initial release this one has yet to make an appearance.

At the moment it’s under the control of the Taken and fans were surprised it didn’t make an appearance during the Forsaken DLC. Many suspect it’ll be used in the upcoming Shadowkeep.
