Fans have always wondered what a next-gen Souls game will be? And we have the answer now, the ninth generation is kicking off with Demon’s Souls Remake. Which brings the question, is it the right choice? Or should it have been Dark Souls 4 instead?
10 Something New (Why Dark Souls 4)
Here is the thing, Souls series is probably very unique in itself. Each time a new game is released, it brings a lot of new additions.
A person who has played Dark Souls will understand Dark Souls III, but will also discover so many new things that the entire experience will be completely different, what it means it that Dark Souls IV would have been a completely new experience, which is undoubtedly a good thing for fans of the series.
9 Nostalgia (Why The Remake)
But countering the above argument, nostalgia is probably one of the biggest emotional drives a person can feel. Demon’s Souls was first released in Feb 2009, which means it is over a decade old. A lot of gamers have not played the game, but to the ones who have played, the Remake will be a time travel to the past days.
This will make it not only a good game but also something with a very high emotional value. A lot of fans have made videos about the Remake, and this feeling is described correctly in their reactions.
8 Profit (Why Dark Souls 4)
There is no doubt that Dark Souls is the more popular game series by From Software. Not to say they have not released other amazing games, but on a popularity scale, Dark Souls is probably their flagship. So releasing a Dark Souls game means more hype and more fan engagement.
Being the fourth game in the series, Dark Souls IV would’ve pulled all the fans of the series and made them lean into buying it. As the first title of the ninth generation, Dark Souls IV would’ve proven quickly financially successful.
7 Environments (Why The Remake)
If there is one thing that Demon’s Souls Remake does is it gives the most ambient environments in Souls games another life. Demon’s Souls is an open book of spine-chilling concepts by Hidetaka Miyazaki. It is the first game in the series and has a lot of artistic ideas that wouldn’t be in the other games.

On top, the game has one of the best ambient environments in the series, which is why a remake completely fits the bill. It gives players and fans a chance to witness the artistic brilliance of Miyazaki in 4k.
6 Progress (Why Dark Souls 4)
A lot of games spins the wheel of progress just for the sake of it. But the Dark Souls series have proven again and again that their progression is always for the better.
What this means is, while releasing a Demon’s Souls remake to kick off the ninth generation is reasonably very good. It kind of goes against the motion. At the end of the day, a Demon’s Souls remake will be the same game, with the same story and lore, which most of the fans know. Dark Souls IV, on the other hand, drives the whole franchise forward.
5 The Punch (Why The Remake)
The Souls series have some rare cinematic moments that should be witnessed by every fan, which is why the first of these moments deserve to be on the plate.
The Demon’s Souls tutorial is very similar to other Souls games. The players are thrown into a scary location and make their way through undead and enemies while discovering controls. These enemies are natural to handle, but then comes a boss who kills the players. At the beginning of the Demon’s Souls, if players manage to beat the tutorial boss, they will still die in one of the most cinematic and funny moments in series. Getting hit by the one punch dragon god.
4 Potentially Seamless Multiplayer (Why Dark Souls 4)
The world of Dark Souls is as artistic as it gets but is separated by a few load screens. However it seems, this won’t be the case with upcoming games. The most significant selling point of the ninth generation of consoles is the fact that they use an SSD as a standard.
This means many games will load in a blink of an eye or probably opt for seamless no-loading gameplay experience. All of this would’ve impacted the entirety of Dark Souls IV. The game would be completely transparent, and loading time in the multiplayer would virtually disappear. Just imagine how unique an individually crafted multiplayer experience would’ve been.
3 Where It Started (Why The Remake)
The most significant selling point of Demon’s Souls Remake is it takes every player back to how the franchise started. The initial release of the game was met with critical acclaim. The game is rated 8.8 by fans on Metacritic to this date. Which means it is already a must-play game. But here is another view, Demon’s Souls had sold less than 2 million copies, which is super low in comparison to the 25 million copies sold of Dark Souls.

Despite the sales, Demon’s Souls is just as artistic and creative and deserves to be played by more players. Maybe with the popularity of souls series, Demon’s Souls Remake will sell much better this time and probably be responsible for moving PS5 off shelves.
2 Exclusivity (Why Dark Souls 4)
Why a Dark Souls IV release would’ve made more sense is the Exclusivity of Demon’s Souls. As of now, the Remake is a Playstation 5 exclusive title. Very similar to the original game, and it makes sense marketing-wise. But from a fan’s perspective, it means buying the whole console.
Dark Souls IV would have been another case entirely, as it is a multi-platform release. Which means it would’ve released on PC, Xbox Series X, and Playstation 5. Bringing all the players under one roof, and letting them enjoy the game on the platform they own.
1 Separate Developer (Why The Remake)
Here is the biggest reason why a Demon’s Souls Remake is a good idea. It has a separate developer. By now, everybody knows that Bluepoint Games are creating the Remake. This is the same developer team responsible for the Shadow Of The Colossus Remake.
Firstly, their previous Remake is justified, true to original, and simply excellent. This means that the Demon’s Souls Remake is going to be as good as it gets. Secondly, it means that From Software is free to work on other new games like Elden Ring or Dark Souls IV. Both of these are genuine reasons to be happy as a Souls fan.
